This historical banner about the 1970s at Shades Cahaba was produced for the centennial celebration recently held at Shades Cahaba. This is my decade and I happen to be in two of the pictures. It’s what happens when you don’t have a huge selection of photos to choose from. It’s also the decade that Homewood started its own school system. The Homewood Board of Education assumed authority on July 1, 1970. The school system included Shades Cahaba, Edgewood, Hall-Kent and Homewood Jr. High School. High school students continued to attend Shades Valley while Homewood High School was being built.
