Bill Cather found these varsity letters when he was digging around looking for his Shades Cahaba scrapbooks to share with me. It’s the varsity letters that were awarded to players at Shades Cahaba during the 1950s. Bill tells me that similar to what Jeff Underwood said in his post, in the years after the high school students left for Shades Valley High School, Shades Cahaba athletics were sponsored by the YMCA.
The Shades Cahaba High School mascot was the Mounties and their colors were red and black. These were adopted by the new high school. From that time on, the Shades Cahaba colors were green and white. I remember having a green and white Shades Cahaba shirt in the early 1970s but it seems as if the school colors faded away over time.
